The start of a new year often comes with the phrase fresh start.
For someone struggling with addiction, that phrase can feel hopeful or frustrating.
Because real change doesn’t happen overnight, and recovery isn’t something you can will into existence with a resolution.
At Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge (PAATC), a fresh start looks different. It’s not about quick fixes or temporary motivation. It’s about committing to a long-term process that addresses the whole person, guiding individuals toward a life-changing encounter with faith and self-discovery.
A Fresh Start Is Structured, Not Spontaneous
Inside PAATC’s long-term residential discipleship program, recovery begins with structure. Each student follows a consistent daily schedule designed to create stability and accountability—two things addiction often erodes.
Days are intentionally built around:
● Christian discipleship classes grounded in Scripture
● Chapel services and spiritual instruction
● Time for physical wellness
● Ministry team opportunities
● Evidence-based clinical counseling with our partners, Naaman Network
This intentional rhythm helps students build consistency in both faith and behavior, which are essential for long-term recovery.
A Fresh Start Means Stepping Away to Focus Fully on Recovery
PAATC’s long-term program includes room and board at our campus in Cheswick,
Pennsylvania, allowing students to step away from daily pressures, triggers, and unhealthy
environments.
This space isn’t about isolation; it’s about focus. Living on campus provides students with the time and consistency needed to address deeper patterns, develop discipline, and begin practicing a new way of life in a supportive environment.
A Fresh Start Is Personal, Not One-Size-Fits-All
● Individual and group counseling through the Naaman Center
● Guidance from staff who understand both addiction and long-term recovery
● Support that addresses emotional, spiritual, and practical needs
This balance of clinical counseling and faith-based discipleship helps students work through root issues, not just surface behaviors.
A Fresh Start Takes Time—and That’s the Point
Real change doesn’t happen in 30 days. PAATC’s long-term residential program is designed to allow enough time for growth, maturity, and real-life preparation.
The program includes:
● Phase 1: 3–4 months of foundational recovery and adjustment
● Phase 2: 8 months of deeper discipleship, responsibility, and skill-building
● Phase 3: A 6-month internship focused on real-world application
Each phase builds on the last, helping students develop consistency, confidence, and practical life skills before transitioning back into everyday life.
A Fresh Start Includes Family and Community Support
Recovery doesn’t happen in isolation. PAATC incorporates family programming and
emphasizes healthy relationships and accountability. Regular chapel services and community living create an environment where students are supported, challenged, and encouraged by others walking a similar path.
This sense of shared responsibility helps reinforce long-term habits and prepares students for life beyond the program.
A Fresh Start Is an Investment in the Future
Choosing a long-term program is a commitment. It requires time, effort, and willingness to grow, but that investment matters.
PAATC’s discipleship program is designed for individuals who are ready to:
● Take recovery seriously
● Commit to personal and spiritual growth
