About Western PA Adult & Teen Challenge

The Western PA Satellite Center of Pennsylvania Adult & Teen Challenge is located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. It is 17 miles northeast of Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh, 7 minutes from Exit 48 on the Pennsylvania Turnpike and 4 minutes from Exit 12 on State Route 28.

It is the 2nd largest city in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia. The population of the city is about 311,000 with 2.4 million in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The region is home to the only 6-time Super Bowl winner, the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, and a 2-time winner of the Stanley Cup, the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

The center offers a rural setting with enough property to permit outdoor activities and yet easily accessible to the amenities of a nearby city. We are a 30 minute drive from the Pittsburgh Greyhound station and a 45-minute drive from the Pittsburgh International Airport.

David Louis – Executive Director

Pastor Dave was born in Canton Ohio on November 17, 1981. At the age of 14, he decided to pursue a life of rebellion, which included the use of drugs and alcohol. By the age of 18, in the summer of 2000, he had overdosed on LSD, gotten arrested, and found himself in the Mahoning County jail. Men from a program called Teen Challenge to visit him in jail. God’s plan included a brief but unsuccessful stint at Cleveland Teen Challenge, a stay at a psychiatric hospital, and trying to stay off drugs through 12 steps groups, but failing. Finally on January 1, 2001, he entered Teen Challenge of Western Pennsylvania.

It was at Teen Challenge that he began to hear truth about his powerlessness over addiction and see examples of lives changed. He graduated Teen Challenge in December of 2001. He remained at Teen Challenge for the year of 2002 as an intern. It was here that he discovered his desire to help other addicts as a career. Through working with the men that God was sending to the program, he discovered a deep joy and peace in sharing the gospel and his life with them. From the years 2003 to 2006, he met his wife Kim and went through college.

After coming back and working as a counselor for Western PA Adult & Teen Challenge for 8 years, He was promoted to Director on December 1, 2014. Dave and his wife Kim have 4 adopted children and also run a program called SON-ward Youth programs in the City of New Kensington, PA, where they also live. This program reaches out to inner city youth, to provide mentoring and help in the midst of poverty, crime and broken families in the community.
